I was in a large Boots chemist store earlier and they now have 2 full aisles devoted to mens products and cosmetics.

Now, I will admit to having a regime in the morning that consists of washing, shaving (face), after shave balm, moisturising and applying gel or wax to my hair. I get accused of being a big tart by my girlfriend for this! Admittedly, it doesnt look very macho when I am put moisturiser on my face and running gel through my hair whilst my girlfriend is waiting for the bathroom mirror, but have you seen the products on sale for men these days.....

Male fake tan, male bronzing powder, GUYliner, men's eyebrow pencils. Then the ususal -Twenty different brands of exfoliating washes and a hundred different shower gels, moisturisers, face washes, shaving gel's, shaving foam, hair removal products etc etc .....

Now surely Boots have done product research and determined that this array of cosmetics and MAKE UP for men will actually sell.

I feel slightly vindicated that my "big tart" regime in the morning is nothing compared to what some modern day men are doing. I blame David Beckham, Peter Andre and the cast of The Only Way Is Essex for this.

Personally, I like a man to be clean and tidy in his hygiene. The student alba occasionally shovels hair gel on his noggin and looks quite smart.

I remember the days when men used to smell of sweat and after that when they either smelled of Brut or Old Spice.

My masseuse recently remarked that the skin on my feet was getting rather hard. I suppose I'll have to start getting pedicures.

Seems a bit OTT to me. My dad just had a shave with a cut-throat razor and a splash of water to get rid of any soap left on his chin. How times have changed.

jd, sounds to me like you've got the balance just right. I've no problem with men using moisturiser as it's got to be better than having uncomfortable dry and taut skin after washing. (As long as no one nicks my moisturiser, of course.)

But make up? No, that really is taking things too far. I would not like to be seen out with a man who was prettier than me!

I detest men spending too much time in the bathroom being all metrosexual!! Hubby uses shower gel and shampoo, deodrant and hair gel thats it!

All this primping and preening and using moisturiser!! check your sexuality out! If you shower everyday you don't need that rubbish!

I shower, usually twice a day, I keep my hair and beard tidy, no Gel though, and I've no desire to know about Guyliner thank you!

I am of the lady persuasion but am also completely boggled by the range and number of products, the amount of body parts that apparently either need deodorising or de-hairing, the innumerable layers of gunk and powder available for the face, and the amazing impracticalities of having long multicoloured fingernails that you have keep repainting.
So come and marry me instead. I'll let you use my blowtorch if you're good.

I don't consider myself particularly feminine and I use shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, exfoliating scrub, moisturiser and sometimes hair gel as well as deodorant and aftershave. Would anyone prefer that men didn't use this stuff because it's odd that I have pulled a couple of really beautiful girls when I've been an unshaven, sweaty dishevelled mess? Do laydees like a ' bit of rough' better?

I agree wit NOX....I shower twice a day, use all the cosmetics that NOX does, when at work a tie and smart suit was the order of the day.

In my experience, many doctors and solicitors would do well to take heed of NOX's post (Not the bit about the slappers though)

My OH ALWAYS smells nice, but he doesn't overdo the grooming, thank goodness. Couldn't stand a man who spends more time in the bathroom than me !
