I've ummmed and arhhhed about putting this on here, but here goes...
I was listening to the radio yesterday (Radio 4, approx 15.30 ish) and they were talking about when a girl starts her period.
There were parents (mainly Mums) on there saying how they'd thrown a party for them, or were planning to. One Mum even said she'd made a... er... cake, though I can't bring myself to tell you what the cake was called.
There were lots of parents on there saying how they'd invited their friends and family over, when it happened to their daughters.
Personally, I find this very, very, VERY weird.
Is it just me, or was I denied something?
That is weird! Would have been the last thing I wanted when I started. I suppose it's just part of the over-sharing of life events that goes on now though!
I think you were saved from embarrassment. I didn't start mine until I was 14 and my new step mother embarrased me by threatening to hang some towels on the christmas tree[ them horrible ones with loops] Thank God she was joking and towels and tampons have improved.
Thank god for that!! I honestly thought I was a weirdo, for NOT having ever heard of such a "celebration".
For me, it was a deeply embarrassing experience, and not one I would have wanted a party for.
Weird, isn't it.
Some cultures do celebrate that (usually fairly primitive ones). I don't particularly see why the fact that the daughter can get pregnant should be celebrated though. They'll be laughing on the other side of their faces if that happens. If I was the daughter, I'd be cringing.
OMG how cringeworthy. I didn't even tell my mother until about 3 days in and none of us girls told each other at school either. Oh the horror of trying to sneak in the girl's toilets with a towel hidden up my jumper so no-one knew it was time for a refresh!. How times have changed.
Really wierd, how embarrassing. I didn't know what was wrong with me when I started, my mum took me upstairs all confidential -like and told me what was happening. Scared the s**t out of me. If she'd thrown a party I think I'd have left home.
LOL @ AYG "I would have left home". Hahaha :-D
It's weird, isn't it. I was sat in the car with my kids at the time (of the radio show!!) and was thinking "eh????"
I really don't want to say. I know it's natural, and all that Sugar, but it honestly made me feel sick.
Her Mum made her a... wait for it...(begins with B, ends in D, 5 letters) cake. BLEURGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
