If you are after a DIY gum number try this.

Steep (soak) some cloves (they look like little brown/black bombs used in indian cookery) in some 40% alchohol (whiskey, vodka etc). The alchohol must be at least 40% proof to extract the anesthetic from the cloves. Steep the cloves in the fluid for at least 48Hr. Great for toothach!
