I have never had a problem with mine and the risks are rare which are easily elimatinated with a good clean piercer, strict aftercare and most importantly a well placed piercing.. also worth knowing what the risks are and how to look out for them for the relevant piercings so you can keep an eye out for them. I've got my conch, tregus and rook done (look em up for daigramatic purposes) and like I said never a problem...
cartilage piercings are slightly more painful due to the type of tissue (but not very painful) and they have longer healing times but they are very lush and can be easily hidden - especially rook and conch piercings if you are concerned about parents..
