coloured glasses for dyslexia.

Hey, does anyone know if there is any financial help available for the above? My friends daughter has just been tested and told she would benefit from a yellow tint but the glasses cost of £180 which she just can't afford. The child is under 16....

I would have thought she would get the NHS allowance and then pay the extra.

That appears to be the case Ummmm but she's at a loss at where she can get the extra £10 from, she will get £40 as the little one needs a prescription too, was just wondering if anyone knew if there was any other help available.

Could she buy some yellow tinted plastic film to place over text? I know a few children at my son's old school used to have different colour films to help with dyslexia.

When mine were little they got the lenses free and an allowance towards the frames.

I agree with daffy- school should provide a see-through plastic sheet (probably yellow) that she simply holds over the text. I realise it doesn't help with reading street signs etc though

Sneaky answer while work is quiet....

I know she has down the coloured screen over her work and it works so she feels under pressure to buy the glasses.
Just thought I'd see if there was any help out there.
I remember my brother having them some 20 years ago and he says the only helped him a little.... how have others found them?
