does anyone think of bad things that have happened to them everyday and throughtout the day

hello everyone basicly i got robbed at gunpoint a few years ago , after the incident i was fine dealing with it and didnt think about it much atal after it happened , but since about a year ago i learnt their name and its been like first thing in the morning and through the day i think about there name just that not the even just the name , is there anyone who has expereienced anything like this and how to move on ? anything or thoughts would please help , thankyou

My husband and I were robbed at gunpointw by five armed thugs in my home about seven years ago. It took along time to get over it and I would get really angry when I thought about it. I don't think about it now but I don't like being in the house alone at night. I keep the bedroom door locked. In fact I keep the doors locked even during the day when I am home. We have ugly security screens on the doors ,electric fence , panic buttons and a browning 7mm under the pillow.

These are symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. You should go to your GP and explain your symptoms and how this makes you feel. He may prescribe medication such as a SSRI's but hopefully ( and hope springs eternal with the NHS) they should offer you appropriate therapies which would in the first instance be some sort of Cognitive Therapy either CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, or at the very least some person centered counselling. Trevor you are experiencing things emotionally that many people do after such a trauma and you can be helped so get yourself down to your local GP asap. Good Luck
@brinjal -I hope you don't live in the uk because if you have a Browning 7mm magnum under your pillow, apart from having a very uncomfortable nights sleep you are breaking the law by having such a firearm in your possession and not properly secured. No one could sleep with one of thoses 'under their pillow ' LOL! oh and what good advice for someone having anxiety issues over an armed robbery -stick a gun under your pillow.
I too have been held up at gunpoint in my own home. I immediately put in my notice to leave the job I had so I could move to a job in a different country. My nerve was gone for many months, but as soon as I left that country I was no longer as depressed and distressed as I had been. I reported it to the police, but never heard if he was caught. I am not paranoid now, but if I have ( say) to cross a park at night, I carry my bunch of keys closed inside my right hand with one finger looped through the keyring. If I were to smash that bunch of keys in an attacker's face, I am sure I'd get off - even if I managed to blind him. I do have door-bolts and check them very carefully. I also have a constant light in the middle of the house, which might deter an intruder. This self-charging light turns into a torch when removed from its bracket, or if a power-cut happens. I also keep a very powerful torch beside the bed - which could gash a nasty hole in a nasty skull, I suppose.

thanks everyone defo been helping , as to some of the comments im not literally worried about this happening again since have in the mean time aquired firearm licenses to make me feel a bit safer but its just the whole thought process about his name just pops up in my head not the incident atall, i even went through the first two years after it happened not even thinking about it just the last year it has jumped up, really going to try the ptsd clinics as i cant go to the gp as might be a problem with my job knowing .
Trevor -your GP is not allowed to divulge your medical history to anyone without your permission and its through him you will access the Counselling and Cognitive therapies that you need. This fixation with knowing the name of your attacker and not being able to get it out of your head can be addressed relatively easily though CBT
you've just answered your own question Trevor -you had to sign a form to allow your employer to ask a specific question about your health -this does not mean you were signing a form allowing your doctor to inform your employer every time you go to see him. Section 3 of the Access to Medical Reports Act states that the employee has to give his or her consent for their employer to be given access to their medical records. This means that an employer cannot ask a doctor to provide a medical report on one of his employees without first asking for consent of that employee. Section 7 of the Act states that the doctor does not have the show the employee information which they believe might cause serious harm to the employee’s physical or mental health or that of third parties. I am presuming you are based in the UK but have a feeling from what you said about PTSD clinics that you might be based in the USA?
No Trevor i am totally sure 100% on this fact that your GP does not have the right to inform your employer of on going conditions or treatment unless the original form you signed allows him to do this. One way is to go to your GP and specifically ask him this question and make sure he understands that you do not want the details of your condition or treatment to be divulged to your Employer. Rules of confidentiality can only be broken under strict circumstances, none of which would seem to apply in this situation. You should go to your GP for a Referral for Counselling or CBT. Trevor I hope you can take this step and just go visit your GP - he will set your mind at rest and put you on the right path to allow you to learn coping strategies through Counselling and Therapies.
thanks magsmay im all booked in for tomorow with the gp , hope they can help its just such a weird situation to be in , i dont even feel any emotion when i think of there name its the same feeling if you kept thinking of any random word throughout the day , just would be soo happy to get rid of the thought , thanks for taking your time to help me :)
