Blood sugar reading...
12 Answers
Hi is there any other likely reason for a fasting blood sugar reading of 14.4 in a 14 year old girl please? My daughter has just had this reading and have made a Drs appointment for her but just thought I'd garner some opinion if possible. Many thanks:)

No she's not a stupid person she wouldn't eat anything to cock the test up, so I'm 100% happy it was a fasting result.
Hi Squad- sorry for the lack of update have been in the hospital with daughter, but here's what happened.
Got to the Drs and the blood sugar reading had elevated to 16.6 with ketones of 3.00 so he sent her straight off to hospital where on the evening it was 22.4. They started her on insulin the following morning 3 times per day with a static shot of 6 units and an overnight shot of 16 units. They released her early evening last night with her blood sugar at 21.2 after her tea time shot and tea.
Last night about 9.00 pm it had gone down to 17.2.
She seems in herself quite well, isn't phased by the situation and is beginning to feel a bit better knowing at least what's caused it.
Thanks for all your help, really appreciated:)

NOX, sorry to hear about your daughter, takes a while to get your head round it all, our youngest son was diagnosed when he was 10.
He went on school trips abroad, he went off to Uni and did all the normal things they do at Uni like getting drunk, etc., refused to do blood tests for a couple of years in his teens. As he matured he started to take care of himself properly, going to the gym, running, eating better. Best thing though was he got a job in London and was under Guys hospital where they completely changed his insulin regime and he's never looked back. He's now 31 and has recently done a five day DAFNE course..diet and food for normal eating...which he reckons everyone with diabetes would benefit from.
Best of luck, I can imagine exactly how you feel right now..

Hi,Thanks to you all, especially you Ethandron for your very informative response. I think the general idea is for her to be on DAFNE eventually but they just want to monitor her response to everything first with a set dose. She's feeling pretty well, and is very calm and pragmatic about it all, not prone to hysterics or panics by nature thankfully, and has info's herself up online so it's all just tickling along. Thanks you all so much for your concern, she'll doubtless be along here herself at some point to thank you as well (she posts as Sharingan on here). Many thanks all once again:)
