This is directed at all the romantics out there! If your partner was to propose marriage to you, what would be your ideal way for him/her to do it? Or if you're already engaged/married, how did your other half propose?

My first husband didn't really propose, we were looking at moving in together but decided we couldn't afford to .  He was in the forces so he said 'why don't we get married and then we can live in a married quarter (cheap housing for married servicemen/women)' - very romantic!!

My second husband wrote a fantastic poem in my christmas card which asked me to marry him - it was wonderful and made me cry : )  I'd been getting anoyed with him because the card was sitting under our christmas tree, but he wouldn't let me open it until christmas morning - I didn't have a clue that he was going to propose.

He got down on one knee with the ring on Xmas Day - I wanted it to be traditional.  He designed the ring and had it commissioned and he spent a month's salary on it.  Actually getting him down the aisle is proving to be somewhat of a tougher challenge!  But when we do he'll probably design my dress too.

We were on holiday in the Canary's(where we now live), and we were out in the sand dunes sunbathing. I wrote 'will you marry me?' in huge letters in the sand, and then pointed it out to her.

Her first words were 'Who wrote that?', i just smiled and she realised it was me, she burst into tears, kissed me and screamed 'yes!' so loud that i was deaf for the rest of the day!! we left it written there and still make jokes about whether it inspired any other people to tie the knot....

It was 1975 and we were hippies sitting on the pavement by a fountain in Es Cana, Ibiza waiting for a bus and we just thought it would be cool to get married - that was 30yrs ago.  Now we are as uptight and conventional as anyone. But the marriage has (so far) lasted.

I had just given birth after a traumatic 21 hour labour and was feeling grotty, though exhilarated at the same time. Prior to going up to the postnatal ward, my partner, myself and our new daughter were left alone for the 1st time in ages.

Partner was holding baby, then handed her to me, with a small gift bag "tucked" under her arm. Inside was a small turquoise box containing a Tiffany bracelet and a card that said "Mummy, Daddy says will you marry him ?"

(He hadn't given me a ring 'cos he wanted me to choose that myself!)

So ..... I got two lovely presents that day !

we were in the car on our way home from my mum and dads house and he said, right lets get engaged next month and married early next year, i dont want a long engagement. Romantic or what!!!
