Sad...

Our beloved 15 year old spaniel died yesterday. She had seen the vet last week - he said she was a sturdy old girl and could go on for ages. Then she took a stroke at the weekend, seemed to rally round from that, but on Monday she went down hill quickly. Vet came and put her to sleep.

Massive hole in our family. House is so quiet, Mr P is devastated as they've been joined at the hip for half his life. Oldest daughter keeps asking where she has gone and is saying Mummy and Daddy are sad.

My heart is broken.

I don't have a question, just wanted to vent my grief amongst other pet lovers.

Aw poor you 2sp, take happiness in the fact that you gave her a great 15 years which is a wonderful age for a dog.

Oh no :-( That is really, really sad.
Pets become part of the family and when we lose them after such a long time, it's absolutely heartbreaking.

It is devastating when we lose our pets. The worst part is when you come home from work, that split second you forget they have gone and you turn your head to look for them. Hugs to you 2sp

Thank you all for your kind words. I think people who don't have pets can't understand the loss when they go.

I keep forgetting she's gone, keep looking for her bed and her doddering about the house.

I'm just so grateful we could be with her at the end and it was quick and painless. The vet was wonderful, very gentle and understanding.

2sp, Take comfort in the fact you did the right thing. So many people are too afraid to take their beloved pets to the vets because they know what the outcome will be.
You did what was best for your girl and because of that she passed quickly and pain free. x

Can only imagine what your and Mr P must be feeling at the moment. Pets are just so much part of the family. Take consolation in the fact that she had a wonderful 15 years.

I lost a pet house bunny last year. It's always hard on the heart losing a pet but take comfort in the fact that you gave her the best possible life while she was alive. 15 years is a pretty good innings for a woofer.

2sp, I am really so sorry for your lose. I still get very sad when I think of my girl, Amber, who went over two years ago although I still have my Ben. But now he is having trouble with his back legs and I am just dreading the day he falls and cannot get up again.

You will have lovely memories of her. And you know those 15 years she had with you she gave you as much love as you gave to her.

So sorry 2sp, in fact finding it hard not to shed a tear. We had a cat for 18 years, you get so attached to them, it is so heart breaking when they go.

Know how you feel 2sp - horrible feeling. I remember all the 'empty places' where my beloved dog used to lie or sit or just be there and then suddenly she was there no more. I can still feel the pain of that over nine years on. You're not alone, others know how you feel. Talk about her and keep her memory alive. All the best x
