Ouch! Sore Ankle!
7 Answers
I broke my right ankle last July (Weber A fracture) after a tumble off a motorbike, and it was in plaster for 3 weeks followed by an aircast boot for a further 3, and I was on crutches for most of those 6 weeks. After this, my final x-ray showed that it had all healed up but now it's February and it still hurts a lot. I am totally fed up of it and wondering if anyone else has had a similar fracture and how long it took before it didn't hurt anymore? Thanks!

I was off work for 3 months almost to the day. Oddly enough, other than when I actually fell and broke the bone, I wasn't in much pain. The time I spent on crutches was a nightmare, putting all (my not insignificant weight) on my other leg really did my right knee in, and then my shoulders were pretty painful as well .... It shouldn't be hurting at all, I would seriously think about going back to your GP and asking for a referral to an orthopaedic surgeon - or, if you can afford it, arrange to see someone privately. I only had a plastercast for a couple of days, insisted on having one of those aircast boot things instead, couldn't bear the plaster shell, it was so uncomfortable 24/7. I do get the occasional twinges in my left ankle, especially in the cold and wet weather. If it hurts you a lot, go and see someone about it. Hope this is helpful, Chox.
Hi Rosie, I broke mine last February and had surgery on both sides. A year later and I am still off work, I'm still in a lot of pain and it is still quite swollen. I have been told there are areas of my foot and ankle which have the start of arthritis. In this cold weather it's pretty painful and stiff. I take tramedol for the pain and ibuprofen for the swelling. I hope it eases for you soon xx
