Is it normal to feel dizzy when I 1st put them on. These are my 1st pair of specs & I've been told to wear them as much as possible.

I can't remember feeling dizzy but I did trip over things for a while until I got used to them.
I ordered a pair of varifocals last week carrust and I was very wary as my Mum said when she first got hers they made her feel a bit dizzy until she got used to them. The optician said they don't suit everyone, so good luck. I'll let you know what happens when I get mine in a couple of weeks!
It takes a while for your brain to adapt to the new messages it's receiving. Stick with it but in the meantime remember to move your HEAD, rather than your EYES, wherever possible. For instance, if you're going up stairs, DON'T simply look downwards with your eyes; TILT YOUR HEAD downwards. (If you don't you'll end up sea sick in your own house!).

Thanks for your answers, They cost me the best part of £300! As a Yorkshireman I'll be on all-fours before they get the better of me:-)
Mine cost me £568 carrust! Mind you - they are Jimmy Choo frames! Posey or what?

£568-00!!!! I'd want an eye transplant for that:-)
The frames are smashing but if the glasses make me feel uncle dick when I wear them, I wont be a very happy bunny!
Don't be tempted to wear them off and on. You really need to wear them continuously until as Chris says your brain gets used to them. Once it's done you'll never look back (well, you don't with glasses do you??!!!!...).
Yes. For me it was. You have to get used to the 3 different areas. I still cant use mine for reading and doing the crosswords. Mine were my first pair and going down stair was a bit of a challenge! You will get used to them. Mine cost about £350
When I had my first pair of vari-focals many years ago, they made me feel dizzy and steps/stairs were a real challenge. do NOT stop wearing them - you'll get used to them in a couple of weeks. I only paid £80 for my recent ones - opticians always try to persuade you to upgrade the vari-focal lenses but in my opinion it's not necessary.
The main issue I had was going down stairs but have been wearing them for years now and they are great. As buenchico said the brain has to adjust.
Mine cost me 800 euros (Zeiss lenses) and I only use them to watch TV and to drive, ie when my head is fairly still, I like the fact that I can look at the TV paper or the car instruments through the lower part, though I could do that just as well with bi-focals. I found playing golf in them difficult and stopped wearing them - though they did give me an extra excuse when playing a bad shot!
I don't agree with diddlydo. My very first pair made me feel very bad despite persevering for weeks and Specsavers upgraded the lenses (no cost to me) and the better quality ones gave no problems.
Since then I have always had branded lenses (Essilor) with no problems at all.
Did you wait to put them on until first thing when you woke up only swapping from normal to varis is vile I didn't have a moments trouble with mine
diddlydo, upgrade the vari-focal lenses to what?

I've got to go back with them. They're ok round the house but for long ditance I'm better with the naked eye. I've got another new pair of normal specs for driving & they're the same. Will i need another eye test?
No but they should recheck the lenses against the prescription. Remeber the whole way to look at things changes you will tend to move your head rather than your eyes until you adjust
£568? Did they have a big window in the shop?

I only ask because they must have seen you coming a mile off!

Serioulsy, of any of you do want to change lenses in your snazzy frames, this is the site to use:

http://www.reglazemyglasses.com/pricing-guide.html

I've used them 3 times now, usually get your glasses back within 10 days and everything is freepost too.
How long have you had them, carrust? I felt really weird for a week or so when I first got varifocals. And if that's your first pair of specs ever it's probably even weirder

I've had them for about a week kiki. I feel as though I'm in a different world
