"the Best Things In Life Are Free"

Isn't this just said by poor, boring and unimaginative people?
I was having a discussion with a neighbor who said this and i must admit i scoffed at hearing this bizarre phrase and scoffed further more when she said you can't put a price on the sunset, a babies laugh or the smell of cut grass on a summers evening.
I said imagine the sunset as you were on your 2.5 million yacht, imagine hearing a babies laugh as she and you flew to a holiday destination in your private jet and imagine the smell of cut grass on a summers evening as you stood on your balcony in your mansion overlooking your fleet of cars.
What are your thoughts? Oh btw i'm new here and my name's MR LOMAS, pleased to meet you.

How very horrible of you, MrLomas. If you're that material, I don't expect you even notice the sunset or the smell of grass. The best things in life, the things which lift my spirits, don't me with a cash tag attached - I agree with your neighbour. Health, contentment, how do you cost that? Scoffing at someone's happiness with simple things in life just shows you up as being a very material person.
I must say that I do enjoy a lovely sunset, especially one where the sky looks as if it is on fire (haven't seen one of those lately) and a baby's smile is great as is its smell fresh from the bath. But I also like the things you have to pay for so I cannot subscribe to the saying the Best things in life are free! Some of them perhaps, but not all. Warm socks on cold feet are nice!! Welcome, MrLomas, hope you like it here.
Yes, on the whole, I would say the best things in life are free. You can`t buy health, friends, loved ones etc and when you are on your deathbed, you won`t be thinking about your yacht or your private jet - you will be thinking about the things that really matter. There are plenty of miserable millionaires in the world.
