Goodsoulette, no need to apologise, different piercers recommend different things, this is the way I was taught and it works fine. Either way it must be kept very clean.

If you are going to do it, then get some saline solution to keep it clean. Use a cotton bud and clean it up morning and night.
Failing that, I suppose salt water would do the job.

I still say don't do it. It looks ridiculous.
