Selective Deafness

i have been listening to some children playing outside for the last hour or so - their mother has tried to call them in a few times, but to no avail

now i have just heard some very very faint musical chimes from what sounds like almost a kilometre away and, guess what...

.... "ICE CREAM!!"

My grandaughter can hear the chimes at half a mile!!

The chimes mean the van has run out of ice cream.

I have posted this before but when we returned from Canada I told my daughter, who had never heard an ice cream van, that it was a travelling church and that when we heard it we closed our eyes, put our hands together and sang...AaAaAamen. x

My lot are good at selective deafness, please put the bin out, please dry the dishes but as soon as food is ready, they hear 'grub's up' when I whisper it.

As proof of my theory I was once giving Mr O some lengthy instructions and to test he was listening, in the middle of my talk I said "and after that I am going to strip naked in the rugby club".
He never batted and eyelid.
I rest my case

Man knocked door of cottage and said to the old lady who answered..."I'm collecting on behalf of Berkley Brass Band."

Old lady....."Eh".

Collector.(Raising voice) "I'm collecting on behalf of Berkley Brass Band".

Old lady...."Eh".

Getting nowhere because the lady appeared to be deaf, the collector departed from the front door of the cottage and left open the garden gate.

Old lady shouts out....."Shut Gate" Collector replies..."Bhugger gate" and the old dear retorts "And Bhugger Berkley Brass Band".
