Re. my post yesterday about my feller's Dad's bells palsy. He went to the doctor's this morning and bells was confirmed. He was given steroids and has to take eight all at once, but is now worried about all the possible side effects. Will he have to take all the steroids, he has three packets all together?

drs are not in the habit of giving out tablets that are not needed i reckon. A short course wont cause too much harm
As Bednobs says, this is the common and correct approach for a short time - most likely be a tapering off dose at the end of the course too. It can seem alarming at first but it is the best treatment.

This is what I think, but as he didn't ask the doctor many questions he's now wondering if steroids are like antibiotics and you have to take every one even if the problem clears up.
That was clearly the diagnosis....that is the treatment....large doses of steroids and yes he will have to take them all.

Side effects?........forget them......a short dose should not have any untoward effects.

Thanks for the feedback.
