Changing Your Body Clock
4 Answers
Do you think it's possible to change your body clock....if it's done over time ?
I get up every morning at 5am but im sometimes asleep at 8pm !!! I'd like to stay up later...even until 10. Been like this all my life (im nearly 47) and just can't see me changing.
Any suggestions ?

In my case my mind/body must think it hilarious to wake me up hours before I need to so I go around in a daze finding it difficult to concentrate and take things in. Which of course means I'm shattered in the evening and fit for nothing much. If I knew a way to correct it I'd do it. Certainly staying up later doesn't help. Nor going to bed earlier either. I put it down to one of life's little jokes.
Certainly you can change your body clock.
I worked shifts for over 30 years and had to change my body clock on a regular basis.
When on 10-6 nights morning started about 2pm, lunch around 5pm, work at 10 pm etc.
I didn't have time to do it gradually and would suggest you jump straight in and stay up 'til 10pm. You'll have to see if you need extra sleep to maintain it. Getting up at 7am doesn't sound unreasonable.

You need 8-9 hours sleep so being up at 5 means you need sleep as you have been awake for 15 hours. If you get up at 8 you would be tired and going to bed at 11 pm. Body clock is based around body temperature. Low 4-5 am and that is when hardest to stay awake. Highest 6-7 pm so hard to sleep at that time. In theory 1 hour sleep gives 2 hour credit. So 8 hours sleep let's you be awake for 16 hours. Everyone has different requirements but your getting up so early is leading to you being ready for bed by 8 pm.
