The Transplant...

A friend of ours Chris male 52 years of age who has been poorly for a few years & on a Dyalasis machine for years and a diabetic since he was 9yrs old has emailed me to say he has just had(Aug 1st) his Operation, a kidney transplant + a pancreas transplant. A long op 10 hours. He is fine feels like a new person & is no longer a Diabetic & off the 4 times a day injections of Insulin.Isn't that great news? I was so thrilled for him. Thankyou too for the team at Addenbrooks Hospital.

Its soo wonderful to be living in the 21st century.

I wanted to share that with you, I know you all like a happy ending.

Now a word of warning...my husband received the kidney of a lady. After the transplant he became addicted to Deal or No Deal...shopping and cooking!

Yes Jem it's great when you get an outcome like this. We have friends who had 2 children born with the same extremely rare condition (Can't remember what it was called)
The young boy had a transplant years ago and has been fine since then. Their daughter finally got her transplant at Christmas at the age of 23.
She now has the freedom to live her life free of dialysis and twice weekly visits to the hospital.

Hi Jemisa, I am so thrilled for your friend, my s i l had the same procedure 5 months ago and she is an inspiration . The overwhelming grattitude and not taking things for granted are apparent so is the love of living. I know it is quite early days for your friend, modern medicine is wonderful.Good luck to him xx

Thankyou soo much for your good wishes for Chris, he is a lovely man & has had a rough time of late. Now I am looking forward to seeing him at the weekend & not leaving in tears as has happened in the past

Hi Jem, great news about your friend and nice to know that sometimes these things go the way they should. My friend's kidney transplant has been a total disaster and he's worse now than he was before the operation so it is good to know that for some people it really is life changing.

A good mate of mine had a liver transplant, up in Birmingham, a few weeks ago.
I presumed hed be in IC for a couple of weeks, general ward for a couple & then moved to a hospital down here(S Wales)
He was walking about the town 4/5 days after the op. It seems amazing to me.
