I take my spoon and tap it on top of egg. Then I peel back the bits of shell and eat egg. Not sure if this is correct way, but I have used it successfully for half a century.
Hard boiled or soft boiled? Makes a difference you know.
Barmaid. trust you to see nuances to boiled.
Indeed Barmaid, and size plays a part too. Hen or ostrich ? Hen , tap gently , lop off the top and enjoy ( softboiled) or juggle a hard boiled egg trying to remove the shell that seems to have been stuck on with superglue, eventually getting your egg ready to eat. Ostriches' eggs...take one big hammer...
I use spoon to slice off the top......if im lucky i can dip a soldier..very rarely though. While on the subject how long should you leave it to boil for runny yolk, mine always gets runny everywhere...yuck
I don't know if this is the correct way but I slice the top 'sixth' of the egg with a knife.
omg there have been wars about this - six of them in Lilliput.

Phleb - How I do it is put the egg in cold water, bring to the boil and time 3 to 4 minutes from then, depending on the size of the egg.
For salads, bash it against something hard to deaden the pain before you peel off the shell. In an egg cup, go straight for the jugular and cut its head off.
You should drill a small hole into the side and shove in your gelignite and detonator. Then go hide behind the sofa and set it off. And you should be in.
for a breakfast egg, I expect the butler to use the egg topper for me
