Constant Dizziness And Flying.

Hi all,

Last night whilst watching TV I suddenly felt very dizzy and nauseous. When I was in bed I found when I closed my eyes I felt that my eyeballs were rolling around in my head and the room was spinning and it wouldn't stop. It was the same when I woke this morning and it's still the same tonight. When I bend down or lie down it gets worse. I was with a friend today who suggested it may be labyrinthitis?

I am due to fly to Italy on Tuesday, will that be a problem if it is labyrinthitis? It's a bank holiday on Monday and I doubt my doc practice will be open so I'm not very sure what to do. I can get to Boots if anyone knows of any over-the-counter remedies.

Thanks everyone.

Does sound like an inner ear infection. I had buccastem when i had it-although it did knock me out a bit. Can you speak to a pharmacist for advice?
as a long time sufferer of vertigo, there is no medication i found that works. However try this, when you wake up, take it slow, don't make any sudden movements, sit on side of bed for a few minutes let things settle. Same when sitting in chair, it does help a bit. Its pretty rubbish i must admit, but mine comes and goes, sometime its stress that brings it on...
You go on holiday on Tuesday, so we can forget any reliable medical diagnosis before that time.

\\\\I can get to Boots if anyone knows of any over-the-counter remedie\\\

Stemetil 5mgms three times a day (Perchlorperazine)

Thank you all. I will go to Boots tomorrow and speak to the pharmacist there. Thanks again xx
sqad, I think stemetil is by prescription only ( may be wrong though )
I can`t see why flying would affect it THB. If it was a problem with the middle ear then yes, you might get problems. Can you clear your ears? If so, you probably won`t get any problems.
I agree Ann, wish it wasn't. I sometimes get this and it's very scary so you have my sympathy vodka.

My ears don't feel like they need clearing, I just assumed if it was a middle-ear problem then flying would be an issue.

Thanks Prudie x
It is NOT a middle ear problem and flying will NOT be a problem.
try what i suggest tomorrow, and indeed when in bed don't turn suddenly,
slowly does and see if it helps. The nausea is pretty yuck, and not sure you can get the stemetil over the counter.
Labyrinthitis/Menieres or whatever is a problem with the inner ear, not the middle ear.
I'm amazed by that link, emmie. My panic attacks started the same time that i had labyrinthitis and it was diagnosed as postnatal depression/ anxiety (baby was 7months). That link shows how anxiety and labyrinthitis can cause each other. I knew i was scared of the dizziness, but never linked them to that extent. Learn something new every day!
the vertigo i was diagnosed with has similarities, its a begger at times, add in the tinnitus which has all but duffed up my hearing.
Vodka, if you are unable to obtain Stemetil over the counter (which I suspect it is only a prescription drug) then ask advice from the chemist what to take to relieve the symptoms, perhaps a travel sickness pill like Stugeron ?
I feel for you as it truly is horrid to deal with.
i saw an ENT guy who explained what goes on, and try not to be scared of it, admittedly when the room starts spinning without the aid of alcohol, then its pretty unpleasant.
Buccastem is the same as Stemetil and is available OTC.
...see first post;-)

Sorry Sqad and 237SJ, I was a bit confuzzled about the flying...that's all I was bothered about really! lol

I will do what you suggested emmie, I am supposed to be working tomorrow so that will be interesting! :/

Thanks PP, I will go to Boots after work and see what they suggest.

Thanks again :)
