Ladies Advice Please

After being on two lots of antibiotics I've succumbed to the dreaded thrush. Tues night I used a Canestan pessary but I'm not convinced it's worked, are they supposed to cure it in one go or do you have to repeat treatment. What do you think about the oral tablet, are they as effective.

You can buy a pack which contains the cream and a tablet - I'd recommend using both.
Another effective treatment is to use a tampon dipped in plain yoghurt

I found Canestan to be useless. Diflocan (oral tablet) is the only thing that works for me.

I thought canestan once did it in one go. Pills or more pessaries won't be a problem if you want to take them. I think live yogurt applied topically can help. Google it for the details of how!

Thanks ladies, I don't want to go with another pessary, would rather take a tablet and be done with it. So taking a tablet today will have no adverse effects given that I used the pessary on Tues?

I'm presuming these Diflucan and Canestan tablets are over the counter (please say yes)

Heard about the yoghurt thing before, does it help cure or just relieve the itchiness?

The tablet will work. Just ask the pharmacist for it (it isn't cheap).

You can buy them over the counter and supermarket pharmacies. The tablets have worked for me in the past. Good luck!

Sorry Daffy, your answer wasn't there when I started typing! You are right, I think the last tablet I bought was about £10 but it worked. Maybe the manufacturers know that we will stump up that much cash for 1 pill just to feel better again!

The consensus seems to be that the yogurt helps, and is soothing, but not as effective as the pessary and oral medicines. There is a long informative article here.

plain live yogurt on the affected area is most effective. good luck.

Thanks Grasscarp, I read down to where it said avoid alcohol and couldn't go any further, was interesting reading about the other symptoms including skin rashes as I seem to have exploded in them the last couple of days, I seem to have gone hypersensitive so I daren't dye my hair incase I end up looking like the elephant man.

Fortunately this bout is the first for many years and I know it's down to the double dose of antibiotics I had last week.

Oh well, I've got the Canestan tablet so hopefully things will improve over the next couple of days, the pharmacist who looked about 12 had never seen Diflucan!

I didn't - I just wondered why she neglected to mention that if the yogurt has spent the precious night in the fridge, the effect is "blissful" - I am reliably advised by a good friend!

Don't know about the tablet, but you need to eat and drink lots of yoghurt. Especially when taking Antibiotics cos they put back all the good bugs that the ab's have killed off.
