Is there any way to reduce sweating? I've never been really sweaty but then I'm used to the cool climate of England. Now in Japan it's around 34 degrees everyday and really humid. I'm having to shower about three times a day and my clothes are ruined. Is there some food or something that will make me sweat less?! I've tried all sorts of antiperspirants but nothing seems to work. It's annoying me so much now even more so because I see Japanese people wandering around in sweaters and wooly hats looking cool as a cucumber! Advice please!!

Hi Laura - I do sympathise! When I lived in Japan, I had exactly the same problem. The locals seemed to wander around without a bead of sweat on their brow and I would be so uncomfortable, literally dripping (mmm nice!). My clothes were also ruined at the end of the summer. I'm not sure I can offer much in the way of advice (sorry!) but I used to carry a small face "towel" (i'm sure you've seen loads of women carrying these - they seem de rigeur), and would use that when out and about. It helped a little bit but didn't solve the problem as such. Good Luck! x
You need to sweat, its your bodies way of rehidrating. It's not nice but you would be worse off if you didnt sweat.
Injections of botox can help, but I'm not sure if it's licensed or anything in Japan.  It may be worth checking out.
When I go there for work, I always wear a vest underneath my shirt which instead of warming you up acts as a protection layer against the dreaded sweat, try a nicer female vest top under your regular clothes.
Coincidentally, my son has just rung me from Osaka and he was telling me how hot and humid it is , so he's having air-conditioning installed in his place in a few days. I'm planning to visit him in September for a few weeks so I hope it cools down a little before then. You probably know not to wear clothing containing man-made material such as polyester, nylon or acrylics as these hold in the heat and don't allow the sweat to evaporate. Don't forget to drink loads more than when you're in England(except alcohol of course, which will dehydrate you further). Funnily enough, it does help to 'think cool', when you're sweltering in a hot climate and anyway, you probably don't look half as hot as you feel - try looking in a mirror when you feel as if the sweat 's cascading down your face and you'll see it's not that noticeable, although I know that's not much consolation.
Whenever I see in magazines people writing in with problems about sweating, they always recommend that you wear 100% cotton clothes. Not a very useful answer compared to the others but I tried! Lol! Good luck though x
