My husband had a failed angioplasty on Tuesday and is to have a CABG x 3 soon. They told him not to take his metformin on the day , then the information sheet said to resume in 48 hrs. He says one of the nurses told him not to resume till Friday. Any ideas ?

Grandma......sorry about the angioplasty, but the CABG is a straight forward and routine procedure.

I am not sure that I understand the question:

I thought that the information sheet meant he should restart metformin today ( 48 hrs ) after procedure. He said one of the nurses said Friday to start it again.
Ah!..I think that I have got it...;-)
He didn't take his metformin on Tuesdays which was the day of his angioplasty and you want to know whether to restart today or tomorrow....is that right?
Well it is a bit late today, so i would suggest he starts his Metformin tomorrow morning.
LOL..we have cross posted.
Yes.let him start tomorrow.
.

Sqad it is a q on resumption of metformin after a major operation

I would have thought 'track the blood glucose' is a sensible option and restart when it start going up.

Thank you very much for taking the time to set my mind at rest.
PP//angioplasty is a" minor", non invasive procedure, but following invasive heart surgery patients are not well controlled on oral hypoglycaemics and need Insulin for a short period of time post op.
