I'm Ashamed To Say I'm Obese! Just Looking For Some Advice.
16 Answers
I've recently given birth to my adorable baby boy, and while pregnant with him I actually lost weight. But since his birth, not only have I gained what I lost, I've also put on a further 2 stone! I'm 5'4" tall and I way a disgusting 17st 11lb. Despite this, nobody believes my weight when I tell them.
My dilemma is, I have no motivation to lose weight! I have no health problems. I can walk, even jog for decent periods of time before I even break into a sweat!.. I just don't know what I can do to give myself some motivation! Even a holiday to Australia isn't kicking my lard arse into gear!

Ok, lets banish a myth - The heavier you are, the more unhealthy you are. I know people who are 10 stone but cant run for more than two mins without feeling ill. Wellbeing is very much about how you feel and it sounds like (scales aside) you feel good. Having said that, on a B.M.I scale, given your height, 17st 11lb is putting you in the Obese category. Continue as you...

If you don't seriously want to lose weight then you won't any more than a smoker will stop if he only "tries" - you have to make a committed/definite decision. It is up to you and nobody else. You might start by stopping carrying stones around and you will be kilos lighter - are they large stones or small stones ? If they are irregular in shape, then surely they must be very uncomfortable to wear.
He's now 10 months old. I'm happy.. I have everything I want. A fantastic job in banking that pays me handsomely. A wonderful guy, the most amazing little boy. I don't know if that's why. Of course my weight is another story.. I'm now a size 22 and all I'm wondering is how the heck did that happen?! I've heard the whole eat less exercise more.. But I work 6 days a week and the majority of that I spend sat behind a desk! My day off is spent with my son, walking the dog etc. I need more hours in the day! I've never really thought I've over eaten to be honest either!
Size 22 for your height is large you will feel the burden of weight as you get older good that you have a got a loving family but you must feel uncomfortable with so much weight, healthwise this is not good you want to be able to look after your adorable baby and it's him you want to get bigger not you!
Please look at Paul McKenna's book "I can make you thin". It will tell you how to rethink your eating habits and form new, better and healthier ones. There is also a newer book by him "Hypnotic Gastric Band". I have not read the newer book as I have lost 3 stone and now feel that I am the correct weight for my height. Good Luck.
flying to Australia like that is going to be uncomfortable - unless you're going club class you're going to be shoehorned into a tight seat for maybe 20 hours. And you're going to be pretty hot and sweaty when you arrive. So if I were you (and in fact when I'm me, as I am no Twiggy) I'd ty to lose some weight before flying.
do a food diary for a week and have a good look at what you eat, you may find cutting out certain foods and reducing portion sizes will make a difference.
exercise is something you need to find time to do and i guess that's hard working full time with a baby. look up desk exercise, you feel a bit of a div to start with but you get over that.
I've lost 2 stone (ish) over the last 8/9 months but i've done that mainly through exercising - i can go to the gym most mornings before work and on weekends.
its not easy and the thing you have to keep in mind is you didn't put it on overnight, so you won't lose it overnight. unfortunately there are no quick fixes its something that will take time and you have to work at it
i hope it goes well for you (maybe talk to your doc as well)

Thankfully I'm not flying economy.. I'm flying business class!
My dinner hour is usually spent on the phone or something to do with work! I have to eat on the go. My job also entails my travelling around the country for certain things too.. So all driving. I also live 30+ miles away from my hq so not like I can walk to/from work either :(
I've tried slimming world before. I was successful for a while. But my job took over everything! I wish I could say I literally worked my arse of for my new job!
I'll have to give the books a try.
Thank you for not being horrible to me! Lol x

Having said that, on a B.M.I scale, given your height, 17st 11lb is putting you in the Obese category. Continue as you are and health issues will be more likely to occur at some stage in your life. Now, since giving birth your body, like many, has changed and losing weight may be more difficult (with a baby you will have less time to work at it too i imagine).
A holiday often kick starts us into a fitness regime, but dont worry if the motivation isnt there, enjoy the holiday regardless.
If you do decide to do something about the weight, start slow, dont rush and dont set targets at the begining as not reaching those goals can de motivate you further.
Adjust your diet to little and often and never eat until you feel really full, just satisfied. Cut out processed and saturated fats where possible. Eat portions of fruit and veg daily. Drink between 2-3 litres of water a day to flush you out and hydrate you. Take supplements like multi vitamins and green tea extract to boost the immune system and cleanse. Eat foods high in protein but low in carbs but do not cut carbs out all together, you still need them for energy.
Start by walking to places that are within walking distance rather than driving.
Once you feel the diet change is working, implement some regular exercise, but again do not become obsessed with the scales at this point.
Try 3 x 45 mins sessions of cardio a week, jogging, gym classes... whatever you enjoy.
After a month or so increase to 3 x 60 mins and continue increasing at a rate that suits you. After say 4 months, then begin to keep a chart of your weight, your body should be responding to the chages by now and the scales are likely to be more positive.
Good luck, remember small steps and you will get there

you have recognised there is a problem here - being around to look after your child should be enough motivation to get you shifting this weight. Keep a food diary, look at your portion sizes and don't just just behind your desk all day. Come on you can do it - surely your partner will be happy to support you on this one, find things that you can do together before this gets any worse and you end up with more weight related health issues. Little things you can do every day will make a difference - don't expect things to change overnight but from this day forward vow not to go up in weight and set yourself a realistic target of coming down even a couple of lbs a week. You will get plenty support on this site - good luck!
This happened to me. I was slim through pregnancy, but as soon as I had my son, I quickly gained over 2 stones and have been struggling to shed it for almost 5 years.
You really need to be in the right frame of mind and when you have a new baby, there's little time to concentrate on yourself. Don't be too hard on yourself and take small steps.
Diet is 80% of successful weight loss, so try to eat the right types of foods, avoid sugary foods as too much sugar will cause Insulin spikes, meaning fat will store more quickly. Eat little and often, drink plenty of water and maybe start with going for brisk walks with baby in the pushchair, choose mixed terrain, so flat and hills which will act as interval training.
If you can then try to do some resistance training as this will help burn fat and speed up your metabolism, you can use your own bodyweight, so press ups, squats, triceps dips and lunges, but wait until you've had your post natal check up. Pelvic floor exercises will not only strengthen those muscles, but also improve Abdominal muscles.
