My lil sister ( who's now taller than me! :o/ so not SO lil these days) suffered with this and my mom used all kinds of treatments .. if you go to this site and search for cradle cap the method used is similar to what helped towards shifting it in the end.
i used baby oil, in the evening put baby oil on the babys head, leave for half an hour to an hour for it to soften, then gently comb off with a baby comb. worked for me every time, my mum used to use it on all of us.
i think its just build up similar to dandruff, my gp said it isnt anything to do with the cot or anything, (i always thought it was them rubbing on the cot dur!) its a mild fungal infection. i have only ever met one baby who didnt get it! my counsins kid had it around her eyebrows too.
His little lordship's 5 and a half and still gets it occasionally, he uses coaltar shampoo when it appears and it's cleared up with a couple of days. Don't use coaltar on your baby obviously - it smells horrid!!
Lol Peri- that might be worth a try. That way the dog might actually go near her. He ignores her completely, totally blanks her and it's heartbreaking as she's always laughing at him and reaching out to him :-(
I agree with BOO. Both of my boys had it and baby oil worked every time. Used to rub it in with cotton wool and wash it out later. Tried over the counter products but none of them worked like baby oil.
Gonna give the baby oil a whirl tonight- see how it goes. Wish me look. Knowing my luck she'll end up looking like i've been cooking chips on her head.
I was going to post exactly the same as boobesque - that method worked really well.
If you haven't got a baby comb to hand, you could use any soft toothed comb. Keep working away at it & in no time Baby Boo will have a nice clear scalp.
cradle cap is caused by overactive hormones. Olive oil works as good as anything else. We use 'Little Me baby organics soothe & calm baby balm' Its a Boots product
Using baby oil on my little one shes 12 weeks now and it works a treat. It also helps with her sticky out hair problem lol she looks like shes had her fingers in a socket some days lol
How old is your baby?
How long has he / she had cradle cap?
Only ask because my daughter was diagnosed with eczema at about 5 -6 yrs (over 20 yrs ago now so not sure exactly when)
and the dermatologist informed us that all the remedies suggested by midwives , health visitors and doctors had been making the condition worse.
If it's been going on for a long time then insist on a second opinion as not all 'experts' get it right all the time, and you don't want yr daughter's hair to fall out.
I used olive oil - massaged it into my baby girl's head in the morning and then washed it out at night - the cradle cap just seemed to lift off! Only took a couple of doses!
