Personally, I don't like plug-ins - they're fire hazards, and they don't always smell as nice as they promise.

What do your friends' houses smell of then - fresh flowers, Febreze, fabric conditioner? They all help!
Open the windows and let the fresh air in. Those plug in things are not natural.
Bake a cake.....
I'm sure it does have a smell, all homes do, it's just you would'nt notice it as you're used to it.

Best smell around? Fresh air!
Everyone and their house smells different. You don't notice your own smell but separated from your house for a while you may notice it when you return.
ask one of your friends what the lovely smell in her (his) house is. I bet they will be flattered and happy to tell you.
Buy a couple of hyacinths! The perfume from a hyacinth is beautiful!

You can't go back you know!
A friend of mine ties little bags of scented dried flowers to her rads, when the rads come on the scent is just lovely, she's just crafty though. she has a little tied bag of ground coffee in her kitchen, mixed with cinnamon. really lovely.
I agree with the fresh air thing.

Some fabric sprays have a nice smell, I've got a Morrisons own one which is lovely.

I love the smell after I've just had a shower and upstairs smells all lovely and clean and usually fruity with the stuff I use.

You could get some pot pourri and get a nice spray to keep it smelling nice? Depending on the smells you like places like Superdrug do some nice fruit body spritzes and The Body Shop do some lovely perfumes like Vanilla.
I use an oil burner if I fancy a nice smell, I also make up a sprayer of diluted fabric softener to spray on the curtains etc.
You can't get much more pungent a perfume than a flowering hyacinth on sale most places right now.

lol!
I must say, walking into a house with a spray going off every so often I find sickening, I was spending Christmas with some family members last year and I felt very queesy and sick as there was an object on their fridge freezer kept pumping out a smell every so often, ruined the day. An open window would have been nice on the day, to let out the food smells and all that christmas aftershave and perfumes.
I use a drop in vac freshener for my vacuum cleaner - makes a big difference when you vacuum. Also buy some tumble dryer sheets and slip one behind each radiator in your house and in each cushion cover case on your sofa (and also you could pop one in your duvet on your bed each time to change the sheets). Spray soft fabrics (curtains, cushions, rugs) with a room spray or any scented fabric refresher. Change & launder all curtains, cushion covers, blankets, throws, towels, bath mats regularly and use a great smelling fabric softener in your wash. If you have laminate flooring vacuum and wash regularly again with a disinfectant, and use a steam mop if you have one.
A happy wet dog, that smells lovely:-)
