According to estate agents the smell of fresh coffee brewing or the smell of freshly baked bread helps to sell a house. Don't know whether this is true or not, but it is certainly very pleasant.
Hi robbieswife

I tend to burn some incense around the house (when someone is in the room) you can get some gentle smelling ones or burn just half a stick or cones.
I've used oil burners but again you need to experiment to find a scent you like.
I found tesco lily of the valley gel air freshener really good too

I tried tumble drier sheets but didn't find much difference.
I've had my sister comment on how fresh it smells in the bathroom and I use this http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/Details/?id=278562248

Is it only me who can't stand fabric softener? I can't see the point of washing something clean, then coating it with goop in the wash.
Boxtops, I don't like fabric softener, I think the same, just wash the clothes and get on with it. then I don't like conditioner in my hair either.
Artificial smells are horrible and make me feel ill and headachy. Just fresh air is better.
I think you never can smell your own house unless you go out and come in again. I am very worried though that you clean and vacuum every day. It can't get dirty in a day, surely. Perhaps if you just relax more and stop worrying about it? I'm not being rude, just concerned for you xx
next time you go to your friends' houses, ask them what that nice smell is.
One of my hounds with wind can create a very natural smell throughout the house!
'Tis the smell of nice people!
I agree that you can't smell your own house.

I'm astonished that you have a plug in in each room, the thought of all those artificial smells is really quite abhorrent to me, they'd have me sneezing like crazy!
The important thing to realise about "air fresheners" and Plug-ins...they are all just chemicals which have been concocted to smell "pleasant". It's not surprising that many people feel slightly sick or headachey breathing them in.
Proper aromatherapy oils (NOT fragrance oils) are much better at imparting a nice smell eg rose, lavender, geranium etc
Sage candle's smell is pleasant, but not overpowering. A light vanilla might be good too.
I put a small amount of my favourite Lenor softener onto a baby wipe and put it on the radiator
