Ankle Joint Problem?
5 Answers
I had an arthroscopy on my ankle joint 4 years ago. The joint has started to give way again- suddenly when walking, and I have to sit still for 3 days til I can walk on it again. Then it will go again. At the moment it is not painful unless I stand on it. I am housebound with this, and can't even walk from room to room. Do I just need to go to the GP/specialist/MRI route, and be told it's inflammation caused by my ulcerative colitis again? Is there anything proactive I can do from here?

Is there any way they can brace it? I've been referred to orthotics as my feet are a bit problem at the moment with RA, my ankles too but my feet are worse. Maybe something similar could help support wise?
Are you under rheumatology or orthopaedics (maybe the orthopaedic surgeon who did the arthroscopy) that you can get an appointment back with them or assess it or would you need a GP referral back.

Not taking anything, Eve. The UC is not a problem at present and I don't take any drugs for it, although I probably should have done in the past. i wrap it up in tight bandages but still get pain when I put weight on it. Rheumatology are not interested in me as my UC is not 'live' and they say it is more hyper mobility.Back to the physio but that doesn't stop the problem inside the joint!
I don't have a practical advice Scarlett just sympathy having had three Arthroscopy's myself and still no resolve to my long term pain problem in my ankle I can really sympathise with you. I hope you get it fixed soon and that you find a solution/fix. I dud have thus same problem alongside general pain. One of my Arthroscopy's fixed the giving way problem and whilst I lost some range if movement it is rock solid stable now. I suspect it would be best to get referred to an Orthopaedic Surgeon. Hope you get sorted.
