For about a month or so I have noticed that my heart keeps "pounding". Its not beating fast, its just beating really hard in my chest. My doctor listened to my heart last week and told me it sounded fine but I am still a bit worried. has anyone else ever experienced this?

Kaz, this sounds like Palpitations. I get them and my GP also told me they're harmless. Have a look on Google, lots of info there.
Are you in love?

how old are you?

Is it more in the centre of your chest? if so could you also describe it as more like a fluttering?

I get this and put it down to indegestion; as it usually occurs when I have eaten a heavy meal too quickly.

I get this from time to time. It started last year shortly after my dad died and I put it down to stress. As it continued I got worried because it really hurts and it feels like my heart's gonna pop out of my chest. It can happen at any time even when I'm relaxed lying on the sofa reading a book. Because I have hereditary heart problems in the family I discussed this with my GP who decided to do an ECG. The reading was normal and my GP explained to me that because my palpitations only lasted for a max of 5 mins I shouldn't worry. She said some people have the palpitations for about 20 mins.
I agree with FINA. They can be really scarey and it's easy to think it's something really dangerouse, but if your doc says your ok, then I wouldn't worry.

Thanks for all the advice, This feeling seems to last much longer than people have said though, I have it on and off all day sometimes and it can go on like this for a few days at a time. I do get quite stressed and I have a history of Depression and anxiety. I am 31.

Kaz - look at nomorepanic.co.uk  -  it may help a bit
KAZ does it happen the day after you,ve been out drinking? whenever im out i have a series of what i call heart attacks the next day...i know they're not heart attacks but i dunno what else to call them. think its a side effect of whiskey for me

Were you anxious when these started?

I suffer from an anxiety disorder and get the same

pounding in my chest that you describe,

sometimes for hours on end.

Also, does exercise ever bring the pounding on?
