I've developed a skin condition which causes profound irritation and itching, yet the skin shows no sign of dryness or rash. I've always had sensitive skin so always use dermatologically-tested soaps and soap powders. Please help as I'm in agony - the condition seems to be getting worse and scratching isn't much relief, it just makes me sore.

It could be a heat rash. Try putting calomine lotion on it or buying a specialist cream to stop itching, such as Eumovate (unsure of spelling) or Eurax, which has helped me with a similar problem
See your GP.

I think Sweetheart is right and you should see your GP.  Itching can signify other problems which he can rule out. It can also be caused by stress.  If you scratch too much it can cause infection to get into the skin and cause something called 'lizard skin'.  I don't know the proper medical name.   Try to rub instead of scratching (tip to me by my doc).  Bathing in a luke warm bath with bicarbonate of soda can give you some relief, as can wearing only cotton next to your skin.

Good luck.

PHD - I have exactly the same symptoms, I have severe itching all over my body especially in the lower regions from my waist downwards, there is absolutely no rash but it is constantly itchy. I have seeked medical advice and been referred to a specialist, who said there was nothing wrong, don't wear tight clothes and basically live with it. I am desparate and have asked for a 2nd opinion. I would love someone to tell me what it is as i can't live with this for the next god knows how many years!!
