Went to visit doctor today and he took a blood sample for a test from me.
Popped it into test machine in his surgery lab and gave me result on the spot.
Whole process inc taking blood sample took less than 10 minutes !
White cell count normal ...no infection ...job done.
oh ...This is Switzerland.
Now back in UK ...
Visit doctor
Sends me to hospital with a blood test order form
Blood taken and sent to lab
5 days later
Call doctors (after 2pm) for result.
Maybe our surgery is the only one that worked like that in England ?

It is a semi private / public purse funded system.
I have the least excess and pay for a number of supplement extras and cost per month is £215 and you pay the first £200 and then 10% of costs post this up to approx £475.
Accident insurance and medical bills for such paid via your employer , if you work more than 8 hours a week.
Even the unemployed pay medical insurance and everyone who stays in CH for than 90 days must pay.
Well it works well.
I pay less tax than in UK (1/3rd of what I used to pay), pay less for medical insurance (In uk it's tax and NI) and get excellent treatment.
Maybe the same model would work in the UK ?

I love the bit where you say - in the UK the result comes back in five days...
Oncology at Hope Hospital - rolled up and found the appt cancelled only no one had told me. Squeezed in - lucky there was a whole cancelled clinic squeezed in as people milled around saying I have taken the day off work and driven in from Timbuctoo....
Well being haem - one always had to have a blood test so go up to Path and ask for blood to be drawn.
oo - no you are not on the list.
Yes boys and gurlz they were refusing to take blood as it was a patient safety issue. safety issue I squealed ????
45 mins later - sister said oh christ take his blood [ and shut him up ]
I did threaten that I would put it on the internet and they basically said go on...
and of course it is much much longer than five days....
Switzerland - it is called point of care (POC) testing - these machines are quite expensive and obviously are not used every second of the day. The there thing is that quality control is difficult to guarantee
