Germolene Ointment

I have used Germolene ointment for over 50 years to good effect but have noticed that it now seems to be unavailable.

Can anyone advise me whether they know of a supplier who is still able to supply this product so that I can obtain some stock before it disappears altogether.

Plenty of Germolene antiseptic cream on Amazon - now in tubes but used to be in tubs. Is this the same stuff?

There is plenty of Germolene cream available but NOT the pink Germolene ointment. This seems to be totally out of stock everywhere.

I think 'ointment' has gone out of fashion and more easily-absorbed creams are produced instead. So it's still around, but not in a tub.
The tubs that you scooped up ointment from also pose cross-contamination issues, which is why these medicines are made in tubes nowadays.

I never liked the stuff myself, the sticky nature of if just attracts the dirt to stick to it, not good. Most small wounds just need to keep clean and dry, a small dressing if really needed. Clean fresh air is the best healer.

I buy Germolene in tubes, it doesn't smell the same as it used to when I was a kid though :(

A good question and is very important.

Antibacterial topical applications work better in a cream and are also better for "sweaty areas" e.g armpits. That is why topical antibiotics are used in a cream not an ointment.

In exposed areas and with no antibacterial agents, ointments work better.
