On the waiting list for what is diagnosed as a 5cm incisional hernia.
It seems to have popped thro' one of the cuts used in keyhole gall bladder removal some years ago.
Two questions if I may ...
How long will I be incapacitated?
When will I be able to drive?
Day surgery under general anaesthetic is planned.

\\\How long will I be incapacitated?\\\

That will depend upon how much pain you have after the operation and what sort of occupation that you follow. If you work in an office and your pain decreases, then perhaps after 2weeks you should be able to return to work, however if it is manual work, then it could be 2 or 3 months before you can safely return.

//When will I be able to drive? ///

That again will depend upon the time it takes for the pain to go and this varies from person to person.......at best perhaps 2 weeks.

Many thanks Squad. The surgeon did say it wasn't common. (He referred to 'rocking horse manure')
I can cope with a couple of weeks, thank goodness for online shopping.
I had this op just over 6 weeks ago. It's taken me that long to recover.
The only thing they told me was not to lift anyting heavy for 6-8 weeks.
I wish you well. x
LOL........he must have been a surgeon of the "old school" as that is a term that i often use........;-)

\\Squad, been meaning to ask for ages.....were you a squabbling bleeder?\\\

Never heard that term before, what does it imply? (No offence taken ;-)
lol....disgruntled hubby of attractive lady patient talk ??.... hi Sqad my love xx
Morning murray my darling.
Had a double hernia op in 2001, inguinal and umbilical. Out next day and could have gone straight back to work, only reason I didn't was because I was given a seven day sick note.
Blackadder....LOL....can you still get sick notes that last 28 days?...;-)

ferlew has an incisional hernia...........bit different.

Squabbling bleeder was how we non-commissioned airmen and women referred to the Squadron Leaders.
They said I could drive after 6 weeks. Funny...I never could before, lol!
Cupid, that's funny. You should put it in jokes. lol
ferlew.....no sorry.......never been in the forces......NS ended in 1960 and i finished my junior hospital jobs the same year, so i missed it.

I would have loved it though.
