Splitting A Hedge

We have a hedge it is an end garden with footpath running down out side of it As its about 3 feet wide I want to split it so I assume I get rid of the part on my side ,but if it encroached on to the footpath I might have to cut it back on that side also .What sort of money would you expect to pay for cutting and removing of cut hedge ?
