I can understand your concern... but, often, the case is that a blurring has occurred while either exposing the film or while processing the film.  The structures are unclear for diagnoses by the radiologist.  Don't worry yourself uneccessarily, but best of luck!

It's a safety precaution.  It could be a benign cyst, it could be a shadow on the X-ray.  The doctor wants another look-see to be sure.  It's natural to worry, but as my mom always tells me, worry doesn't solve anything.  Mind you, if there *IS* something in there, it's lucky it was caught early.  My own mom had a questionable mammogram back in 1992.  She could feel no lumps or anything via self-exam.  They did a biopsy, found a malignant tumor that was just under 2cm.  The tumor was removed, she underwent a series of radiation treatments, and has been cancer-free to this day.

If (and that's a big "if", for the majority of irregularities found are non-maglignant cysts), for some reason, they *do* find something questionable on your mom's mammogram, early detection like this is the absolute best course to "nipping it in the bud," so to speak.  I send you and your mother my very best wishes.
