Booze is no good - you`ll get to sleep but then you`ll wake up again (alcoholic insomnia). Someone told me that I Can Help You Sleep by Paul Mckenna is good.
What have you tried overtime to deal with your insomnia?

Have you ever spoken with your GP about it?

Blaming insomnia for everything that is going on in your life is a very easy cop out.
Sleep deprivation is a well documented punishment or torture technique. Are you sure you are not using this on yourself even in a subliminal way?
You can try getting up at the same time every day even if you haven't slept , getting through your day as well as you can then going to bed at a 'normal' time. No dozing or naps.
Might help.
Alcohol definitely makes things worse and sleeping pills are only a temporary solution.
I take night nurse capsules. I sleep a treat with them.

Use The Power of Now by Eckhard Tolle. When you go to bed, empty your mind and just think of 'now'. Works for me every time.
Caran. can you buy those capsules OTC?
Yes you can, Jackdaw. The Night Nurse liquid also gives me a good night's sleep
there are all sorts of fixes, succcessful or not

but really you need to see your GP and work out what's causing it.
Where do you start.....
There are so many reasons that ones sleep can be affected.
For me, personally, it was a mental challenge. The more I dreaded "trying" to nod off, the more my mind would wander and not allow me to sleep.
I can only vouch for myself, as its a very individual thing, but I exercised more, eat better and it lessened my anxiety at night. I used to take a large whiskey to bed but then got quite shocked that I was having a bottle a week, so stopped that.
Yes, medication will work with some but then the matter of dependency can creep in.
Therapy, is another route.
The internet is full of insomnia websites and chat rooms. Once you do some research, you will realise your problem is shared by millions. Sometimes for isolated periods, but, often prolonged.
Find what works for you, like I said, for me, it was lifestyle changes... Healthy body, healthy mind
