Very difficult, I always try a pillow or even two under my knees and a heat pad or hot water bottle on my lower back, but not every method suits everyone.

Frozen peas!

No, I'm not joking. It's among the suggestions here:

I find nothing works for my sciatica. Certain things "ease" it slightly but it's ...always there ! Hope you're soon feeling better gordie xx
I'm glad if it helped a little - agree with everyone the pain will have its time but a decent sleep helps so much.
Was told by my physiotherapist to always cross my legs (put one thigh over the other) when sitting, changing from leg to leg at regular intervals. She said that this would help release the sciatic nerves. It is not a magic cure, but has helped me and you might find it helps.
Nasty when it's like that. Remember lots of us have been there and not only survived, but learned to cope with it. All everyone has said about heat, pillows etc. is right. When very bad you can try getting on hands and knees and gently arching your back. Another way is to lie on the bed and draw your knees up to you chest (you'll need your arms). Sometimes this can release the nerve, but it will always stretch the muscles. I must stress that in both cases you should warm your back first and do it very, very gently. Hope it feels better soon. Have you got a heat lamp? That often helps.
