I get cramp quite regularly in my right foot its absolute agony lasts for about 30 mins and I've never found anything to help
\\\ Has anyone experienced that before ?\\\
No, he must be unique?

Joking apart.......is this the first time and just to confirm, was it both shins and how long did it last? How old is your "hubby" and has he been doing any physical exercise recently?

Doesn't sound like cramp to me.
Were his feet cold? After a lengthy spell of mild(ish) weather, he may simply have become used to leaving his feet outside the covers.

Hi Sqad !
He has had cramps before , but a after taking postassium they got better. He has just confessed to me that the other day , while out fishing he was clambering over the rocks for quite a bit, to get to that " sweet spot" no fish for inner though :(. He's 62
Question Author
Hi Grimaldi, I doubt it was because his feet got cold, but I will mention it to him. He still thinks he is 32 and likes to keep up with his son, when they go fishing.
I got a tip from a lady when I used to go for a massage, and it works! When you get cramp bend your toes backwards as far as you can and cramp will disappear
Question Author
I"ll pass that tip on. Thanks !
Right.....it sounds more like "Shin splints" than cramp.

Google it.

Is he taking any medication such as anti Diabetic medicine or thyroid tablets?
Question Author
No Sqad. Only cholesterol tablets, on and off. ( on Drs. Orders)
O.K thanks Sam.....Google "shin splints."
If I get cramp in the leg during night, I immediately drink water and the relief is instant. It works for me so wanted to say in case it helps anyone else.

That looks like it Sqad. I am thank god for google. He's resting now, bless him.
Thanks for all your input everyone.
Some French swear by the aperitif Sirop de Picon against cramp;
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sirop_de_Picon
A French friend and I drank lots of it as an accompaniment to beer and neither of us got the cramp!
I've had it, not nice! I tend to get more cramps if I get dehydrated and from not moving as much.

One piece of advice I had that I've been trying is, sounds easier said than done, but is to relax and let the cramp do its thing, that fighting it and flexing muscles and such can make it worse and prolong it. I've been trying that and it isn't as bad as it sounds. Once it's relaxed a bit I get up (usually in bed or on the sofa) and walk on it to stop it coming back.

I assumed it was cramps/spasms.
