Hi there
I ate 2 ferrero rocher chocolates before I went to bed and it is interfering with my swallowing. I feel as although the hazelnuts are stuck in my gullet. I dont think they are . I am fine when I am standing up but when I am lying down. God !! Anyone else have this problem?
If this sensation does not resolve itself with a good gulp or two of liquid then you may have a kind of hernia in your oesophagus - it is called a pharyngeal pouch. It is created when the lower of the two muscles in our gullet doesn't fully co-operate (doesn't open on cue) in synchronicity with the tongue and upper muscle to create a smooth swallowing reflex. It is more common in males than females and is mostly found in people who are middle aged or older. Fragments of food, particularly hard little lumps such as nuts then get left in it and eventually get regurgitated and ultimately re-swallowed, especially if crunched into a paste. You may have the beginnings of this condition or possibly a proper full-blown one.
Irrelevant, but I have always thought that F-R is overrated, as with Toblerone and others......but I'll happily eat them if they are offered, I am an chocolate addict after all (but not for the colour of it - and I am no fan of white choclate).
