Sudden deafness is a medical emergency particularly when it is associated with tinnitus. Bar far, the commonest cause is wax or something similar, but occasionally the nerve is damaged either by blood clot or virus infection and the only hope of resolution is by early diagnosis.
Unfortunately, the training of doctors in ENT in the UK is appalling and sudden deafness is not taken seriously.......not only in the UK.
In these uncommon cases of nerve deafness, early diagnosis and treatment is paramount if the hearing is to be maintained.
