Dealing With Born Agains
72 Answers
In my town centre, there are a couple of street preachers who regularly take to their soap box to tell us unrepentant sinners how awful our lives are without the love of a jewish zombie in our lives.
However, a local black, evangelical, Pentecostal church has taken to some radical proselyting on a Saturday afternoon, lots of loud singing, fire and brimstone preaching and in your face "Do you know Jesus?" type of conversations.
I was trying to speak to a friend, over the din of singing and guitars, when a young lady (bible in hand) tried to hand me a religious tract and asked me if I knew jesus. The conversation went like this...
ME...No, Im an atheist
HER...Oh!, Why are you an atheist?
ME...I read the Bible, its disgusting. If its true then I don't want to believe in God.
HER...Eh?
ME...Have YOU read the Bible? All of it?
HER...Er, no. Not all of it
ME...Then it would be a bit hard to discuss something you havn't read.
HER...Have a good day sir, bye.
I had no idea it was so easy to get these loons off your back. Just ask them if they've read their Bible from cover to cover.
How do YOU deal with religious proselytisers?

I mean these people are REALLY out to tell you that your gonna burn if you don't know jesus and they REALLY have a need to save your soul (more Brownie points for them I guess if they can save a really stubborn sinner)
// I always say: "I'm an atheist - Goodbye" //
TTT, its a sort of hobby of mine but I actually enjoy talking to religious folk. I might be labouring under a misapprehension but I feel that if I can show these people that they are wasting their lives believing in this rubbish, and if I can contribute to the deconversion of just one of them, then my time would have been worthwhile. As I said, I might be labouring under a misapprehension.

"...I feel that if I can show these people that they are wasting their lives believing in this rubbish," - you are assuming you can reason with them, you cannot, to them you are the nutter, you need saving, how can you not comprehend the wonder of , you need help my friend I can save you! Have your fun by all means but remember they are not sentient like you are.

Mmm, I see your point TTT. Many years ago when the Sunday trading laws were relaxed and shops could open all day, I had a conversation with a pastor who was outraged about it, and yet he could see no wrong with the barbaric genocides carried out in the Old Testament. Still we live in hope. Sometimes mentally ill people DO recover

As Ive said anne, I actually enjoy talking to these people usually, it was just that on this day I was already having a conversation with a friend that Id bumped into. And it was the young lady that didn't want to talk to me after I simply asked her if she'd read her own holy book all the way through because I had and knew what was in it.
