Has anyone used one of those vacuum devices for removing wax from the ear - they are advertised regularly in mail order catalogues.

Don't use them! Wax in your ears is a natural substance, put there deliberately by the body to defend your delicate inner ear from invaders. It shouldn't be seen as an offensive thing. If you have bunged up ears, go to a specialist and get Hopi Ear Candle therapy. It is amazing, and doesn't assualt your ears to get wax out!
