Hey people,

I have this really really bad dizziness in my head, it's whenever I move or turn my head.

I have no idea what could be causing it or how to stop this.
It has happend in college before and it's been happening alot recently. I really need to get rid of it.

I always seem to have a headache on Sundays, usually just a headache or migrane but today it's this dizziness.

The best way I can describe it is like when you come off a roundabout that's been spinning for 5 minutes.

If anybody could help I would really appreciate it :)

I'm not a doctor so can only guess at the reasons which could be:

  1. Wax building up in your ears, in which case add a few drops of warmed olive oil for a few days before your doctor will syringe them out.
  2. Some kind of virus which will burn itself out in due course.
  3. Vertigo, which is caused by fluid moving around in the ears . To learn more about this,  type in BPPV (Benign Proxysmal Positional Vertigo on Google or visit the following website: http://www.tchain.com/otoneurology/disorders/bppv/bppv.html

Interesting... I'll try some of those exercises :)

Thanks WendyS
Your dizziness problems are most likely to be the result of an infection of the inner ear. As WendyS has suggested, any virus is likely to 'burn itself out' but I'd still recommend that you consult a doctor just so that he can eliminate the possibility of any more serious (but far, far less likely) causes such as a brain tumour. (If you're getting regular headaches you should see your doctor anyway. Far too many people regard headaches as 'normal'. They're not! - I'm in my 50's and I've had headache on fewer than a half dozen occasions and every one of those was related to an identifiable illness).

Ah Buenchico, thanks alot :P

You might have other related symptoms that are not "normal" for you. Tiredness, a tendency to develop neckache, stiff joints on waking, and tinitus or disturbance in hearing (having to swallow to get the ears to "click" back like descending in an aircraft). If this is so then you most likely have a "head cold", a viral infection of the sinuses, Eustacian tubes and possibly middle ear. Such infections are self-limiting, and if you are a young, fit, person not under some immunity suppression therapy (post transplnt etc.) it will go away after about four to five weeks. Anti-biotic drugs are useless against virus attack.

Remedies for symptoms: If not under blood thinning therapy (Warfarin, Heparin etc.) then twice daily "Mu-Cron" (over counter pharmacy) will prevent the over production of mucous that is the source of the discomfort. Inhaling Olbas Oil (over counter pharmacy) is another useful trick for clearing stubborn sinus blockages. Try to sleep on your back so that the mucous does not drain to one side during the night and increase discomfort in the morning.

Disclaimer: If you are under any other therapy or headaches persist for most of the day over two or three days, or affect your vision, speech or motor co-ordination adversely you must see a doctor. Nothing I have said should be a substitute for qualified medical opinion from your own doctor who will know you better than any on Answebank.
