Hi there I am going to a bigger hospital tomorrow my dad is driving me to have an abdominal MRI the last time I tried it without sedation and i freaked out this time it is a bigger scanner known as an aera. So tonight I take 4 x 1mg lorezapam in the morning 2 and an hour before 4. So I am sure that will help. I phoned the dept and told them I was anxious and having premed. Anyone had one on the aera scan before, they are supposed to be bigger

They're great gordie, very quiet, much better than the smaller ones

I'm sure you'll do fine with your pre med and the larger scanner Gordie.
Have your bowels woken up yet? We have not heard from you since you told us they went to sleep!
If they haven't, they might tomorrow. :-)
The pre-med will sort you out, Geordie. You will be completely relaxed. Best wishes.
I've had one and it was fine. (I'm not a fan of tight spaces either.) Just close your eyes and relax. They might even be able to play some calming music for you.
a bit late and apols for not answering the actual question now but there are some 'open' mri scans around the country - worth keeping in mind if you're a bit iffy with the closed ones and maybe have to have another scan. I've used them and they are brilliant.
'Open' scanners are the norm in France. They're a doddle. I was frightened of having a scan there (having been in something like a torpedo-tube in UK), what a relief to have my head and feet sticking out!

OH's daughter was also terrified of the little ones- to the extent that she refused one scan, would have shown that her cancer had spread at an early and more easily treatable stage. I suppose money is the reason, but they all ought to be open i.m.o..
