Just Jude and YMB - you appear to regard this trip by Met officers as a thinly disguised excuse for a jolly-up in the sun.
I would suggest that any one of them would prefer to visit Europe as the holiday-makers you wish to infer that they are, instead of having to spend hours and hours in offices trying to solve a taxing case involving child abduction.
I would further suggest that not one of them is so keen to enjoy maybe the odd break in the sunshine on the taxpayer that they would think this is a task to relish, and to consider themselves lucky to be involved.
I think you have a somewhat innocent notion of what working abroad is actually like for those who do it.
