It has been a very long and hard 3 noghys.Bone marrow biopsy Monday to see what kind of leukaemia and staging. Then chemo begin thurs. He's an inpatient on isolation ward to prevent infection. Any prayers please. Please.
Hello all. Thanks for your concern. This is the first time I've been on here since I posted hubbies results. Hub is improving general health wise (tho still on oxygen and drips, incl 3 x antibiotics, diuretics, anti pyretics ... U name it) they hope to start chemo on Friday or Monday if his health is up to it. Mentally it's all been a bit of a trial for both of us. Hard to believe this time last week all was "normal". But God is good (apologies to those who have different views ... I'll respect yours and pls respect mine) and the prognosis is good. It's AML (acute myeloid leukaemia) but one which should respond well to treatment. Of course with cancer there is never a guarantee and six months (estimated) as an impatient will be very hard on husband emotionally and physically. Coupled with the fact we are self employed and our family live in South Africa means there are many hurdles to overcome. Financials are a huge worry now he starting to feel better the worry is there. when he was soooooo ill with the septecemia all I could think about was him being so seriously ill... Tbh i did think he may not make it as his body was being poisoned and all the antibiotics they tried seemed to take so long to kick in. He's also now got fluid around the heart (due to leukaemia rather than heart failure as such) and they might have to drain that first. I spent first few nights at hospital but now realise I need to sleep or I be no good to anyone. To top it all this morning i was in such a hurry to get to hospital that I Dropped my phone (totally wrecked) and reversed into neighbours car (damaging it enough that i will need to put insurance claim they)... Hey ho!!! Sorry for long whinge... I've not been in long from the hospital so dear answer bank folk you've been my "wind down". Thank you :)
Hello all
Still too much fluid on the heart to start treatment(its due to a complication of the leukaemia not heart failure as such) and they want to consider transferring him to Kings Hospital in London because of this.
Hubby does not want to go... I don't want him to go. The time implications and cost implications of me getting up there will be enormous. I won't be able to be with him as much and that will also affect his mental state.
However THAT said if thats the best place for him then so be it. But we really are praying and hoping that this is not necessary. When they do the echocardiogram tomorrow please, please let it show heart is improving.

no - yes !
if they want to transfer to Kings then say yes
Very good tmt and reputation
I went down there for a second opinion
and we acted on the profs opinion ( more chemo and rescan)
if you can get the diagnosis - ( long latin names of course ) then Slaney who is a retired haematologist may chip in
be very hopeful - I presented with lymphos of 20 - no not twenty thousand - .02 in modern units ( normal - one) - in Mar 2012 and am still alive to tell the tale

Well it's been a long time since my original post. 48 days
An update that as you know my husband suspected lung clot was actually leukaemia.
After a few days desperately ill in a Kent hospital he was transferred to king's college hospital in London. 17 days in ICU fighting for his life (literally) to overcome sepsis and the remainder on a haemotology ward. His first session of chemo is over and he had another bone marrow biopsy today. Nervous time as we wait for the outcome. But with prayers we are coping. He might be allowed to come home for a short while soon before he goes back in as an inpatient for more chemo. He has had a long journey....
Moral of the story folks.... Don't trust everything a GP says.... Question things and always insist on more tests (we had suspected for a few months "something" wasn't right yet GP dismissed my husbands previous request for a blood test an entire month before he collapsed with sepsis! It would not have solved the leukaemia but.... It would have meant earlier treatment and avoided the sepsis that could have killed him. We will make a formal complaint in the future about this ....Not for a lawsuit nor financial gain but because we want to avoid someone else going through this!)
