How Times Have Changed...music Fans...

Tonight, my daughter is taking my grandson to see Olly Muirs, and another x/factor contestant at Thetford Forest.

He is only 6 yrs old, loves his music, and is always dancing about when he hears him, and others on tv or the radio.
Can you remember, being a fan/music lover at 6yrs, I certainly cant, my earliest was Frankie Vaughn, singing Green Door, when I was about 11/12.

They are very strict controlled events every year, with lots of family's attending, and everybody is searched for alcohol etc.

Times.... they are a changing!!!

oh yes, we always had the radio on, and I can remember lots of tunes from before I started school. (After that I lost track of it for a few years.) I found a lot of them and put them on my iPad.

Six-year-olds tended not to be at music concerts 40/50 years ago. Now that our children have been slaughtered at a music venue surely you're not suggesting that people should not be checked?

No I wasn't a music fan in the same way that six year olds today are , I was surrounded at home by the music favoured by my Parents and Grandparents.

Until rock and roll came on the scene, I had to listen to Strauss, Brass Bands, Jim Reeves and Mario Lanza!
I eventually got a radio (which we rented) so I could listen to Radio Luxembourg, but I was probably about 12/13 yrs old.
Don't think there would have been concerts when I was 6yrs old but my Mum and Dad used to take me to a sort of music hall place at that age.

It certainly has changed. It seems as though it's aimed at the younger ones these days. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing. All depends on words of song and performance. I worry their childhood has been taken from them too early. I remember when I was about 6, my Mum let me listen to Cliff Richards singing The 'Young Ones' coming from TV (turned up loud) whilst I had just gone to bed. She was so excited!

My earliest musical memory (probably from before I went to school) is of singing a few lines of this (almost certainly flat) over and over again and driving my Mum up the wall with it. (Kids still do the same thing but it's nearly always advertising jingles that they sing nowadays!):

Chris, there was such an OTT reaction locally about this at the Newmarket races.

Newmarket race nights with bands etc on a Friday night, is known for its drunken idiots and fighting, and the people who took their young kids, should have known better.

Everybody thinks they were after a few bob in compensation!!!!

Well they've got to find something to do in Newmarket, haven't they, Trt? It's not exactly the most exciting of towns I've visited!

However it's redeemed by having the best Thai food in the country ;-)

Both arrived home safe & sound, and my daughter said it was a great night, they had a lovely time, and Olly Murs was very good.

They had a place near the stage, in a family enclosure, the security was brilliant, every person searched, plenty of police, 3 ambulances on standby, no drunks, and no trouble.

The only problem is now, her neck & shoulders are aching, with having my grandson on her shoulders :-)

It used to be good at one time Chris, as I had a pub/disco there for 11 years, and people used to come from all over for the night clubs, which have now closed down, as well as some pubs, one being the Thaikitchen that was in your link, used to be the Crown Pub.
My old pub is now a Wetherspoons :-(

When I was 6 Abba, Queen, The Bee Gees and Boney M were hitting the top 10.

The light programme was all I remember with bands and not much else. Then as a teenager along came the pirate stations and music variety improved.
