I managed to slip, trip on a car park, must have put my hand out to protect myself but now the hand is a bit worse for wear, bruised and grazed. Main concern is there is a hole in the middle of a fingernail with a crack radiating from it. Frightened that it will come off. Thought of putting nail varnish on to strengthen it but would that seep through the hole and crack and maybe make matters worse. At the moment am just protecting it with plasters. I would welcome any advice, thanks.

As long as you're sure it's clean, keep it protected and maybe ask at a Pharmacy tomorrow.

I bet you'll be aching by then poor love.
it won't come off.
The nail will continue to grow and then you can snip away at it when it becomes necessary to do so

Thanks for replying, I have some wound cleansing wipes which I keep in for the grandkids, used them. Mamya, I'm aching already but I think I took the brunt of the fall away from my hip, knee and anklexx
I closed a door once by not using the handle, but by pulling it closed - and shut it on my finger as I went out.

Finger nail got misshapen - and a lovely shade of black!

Eventually the nail came off months later, but the new nail had grown underneath!
