Was at the doctors just now, getting my vitamin injections.
They did 8 blood pressure readings as apparently they all came out too high apparently at 141/113, so I have to go back on Monday for more readings!!
In the meantime they have asked me to have a calm and relaxing weekend to try and bring it down. Is it really that simple being calm will bring it down - because seriously calm is the last thing I feel!!
If you are not currently on any prescription for hypertension you could try increasing your potassium level. Easy enough to eat 1 or 2 bananas a day. When you next have your blood pressure taken inhale very deeply as the cuff inflates and then exhale very slowly and completely. This was a tip given to me by my G.P. and it works for me.
It seems to. You may also be suffering from 'White Coat Syndrome'. If you have to go for blood pressure tests very often it is a good idea to get yourself a monitor that downloads the readings to your computer, this can then be printed off and taken with you to show GP good/bad it is over a period of time for a more accurate picture.
Eating that much extra is a real problem for me choux as I can only eat tiny amounts of food and its mainly protein that I have to eat!
But will try the inhale thing - not currently on any medication for hypertension
I cannot for the life of me understand why one would try and minimise, BP readings when if left untreated might endanger your life.
Stress "may" raise your BP, a little, White Coat Syndrome as a diagnosis always concerns me, so have a "normal" weekend for you and go back on Monday for re-assessment.
Beetroot juice lowers blood pressure....generally mixed with apple juice to make it more acceptable so check the %age of Juice and buy the highest beetroot content....really does work.
In these circumstances, you're usually fitted with a BP monitor which takes readings over a 24 or 48 hour period while you are living "normally"...gives a much truer picture of blood pressure trend.
With blood pressure, what would a perfect reading be?One of my friends told me today she is suffering from high blood pressure and last week when she had hers taken, her top number was 200.
that 113 looks well high (141's okay), but as Sqad says, doing unusual things to bring it down only makes sense if something unusual has driven it up in the first place. If the truth is that your BP really is high, best acknowledge it and deal with it.
Georgie.......depends upon age, sex etc but if you are talking "perfect", then 120/80 would do nicely for starters. Your friend with a BP of 200 whilst on medication is in a spot of bother methinks.
Islay hope all goes well on Monday. And with apologies for hi-jacking this thread, my BP (with meds) is within acceptable levels. However, I've always been concerned about my low pulse (mid to high 50s). In the past, the GP has said nothing to worry about. However, I've been monitoring over past fortnight when it has around midday dipped to mid 40s. Thyroid reading is OK but have at last been referred to a cardiologist. I'm 70 by the way - and no athlete!
Arrods...that's a bit low.
A Cardiologist will investigate and if it is a problem with the electrical conducting system of the heart, then you may well be in the frame for a pacemaker.............no big deal.
