I have just returned from the dentist where he quoted me £450 to refill a tooth which has a crack in it or £200 to extract. The says the high price is due to the tooth being a rear molar and awkward to get to. I have said I will have a think and get back to him.
What do you think of these prices????

Is that private Sharon?
I am shocked too and glad I'm on Denplan for that reason.

Hope you can get some lower quotes Sharon.
Are there no dentists who are accepting NHS near you?
All that you are getting is covered under Band 2, £56.40

This is NHS!!!!!!! I am gonna try another dentist as these prices are ridiculous!
Wow! That doesn't seem right to me Sharon. Go elsewhere...
Use this site to find an NHS dentist near you who is accepting new NHS clients

I have a private dentist and he wouldn’t charge even half of that. That sounds very wrong!
They are bull***** you, they HAVE by law to charge the prices in the link I posted. If they do not then report them to the NHS!
That is not NHS prices which are capped. £56.30 for an extraction or filling no matter how awkward,

Thanks for that Eddie, I deffo will be going elsewhere as this tooth hurts sporadically.
I assume that you are a private patient?

Not sure how old this is but here is a list/comparison of submitted prices:

If accurate and current perhaps your quote may be on the high side?

You may find somemthing in this article to help with seeking lower cost treatment:

Remember the £56 is just your contribution the dentist bills the NHS for the rest of the cost. That dentist is extracting more than teeth!!!
I am at the moment haveing part dentures made and fitted. As I am on pension credit it is 100% free. The private cost is £1700 , the dentist told me that herself. The NHS cost is some where in the £400 range.
Seems a bit high...........we did have on AB an excellent dentist J9PUR would unfortunately doesn't post any more.....a pity really as another expert York333 was an Ophthalmic specialist.......he doesn't post any more.
the younger alba may be interested in this as he's planning of going to dentist tomorrow (NHS) he wants a tooth out, so anything over £56 will be a no-no.

Sharon, that dentist is chancing his arm.
Yes, these days trying to get informed comment on matters dental is like drawing teeth.
Are you anywhere near Bristol Sharon?
EEK..he's at it !!
Mikey's near Bristol and I believe he has sharp teeth - after all, there is that welsh lamb to be shredded orally.
Mrs JtH was having dental troubles/pain.
She went to see a dentist who declared her gnashers 'not fit for purpose' and came up with a proposal for replacing them all.....which involved travelling to Manchester and other nonsense and all for the insignificant sum of £3900.

She visited a second dentist who found the problem......solved it and charged £18!! Needless to say she swapped dentists.
