He also has this women which sometimes visits him at night and whispers in his ear and sits on his chest, she can move things and turns of his TV and laptop which he keeps on so there is noise, he says when these are on she doesn't visit him as often. Have to say that chest sitting spirits sound unlikely. Is his TV and laptop in his bedroom ? Maybe they make sounds that trigger something in his mind as he sleeps. Get him to bite the bullet and clear the bedroom of electrical stimulus, get a proper wind down period/routine before retiring for the night. See if things "improve".
The chest-sitting spirits sounds like sleep paralysis, as jno said. I've experienced it myself. It is very frightening.
The other things could be him spooking himself more from that fright, or the weird state between asleep and awake.
Alcohol, stress and lack of sleep can be a big part of things like this.
